Weeknotes

After a holiday, it has been slow in getting back into gear.

I picked up an administration task to help identify the courses that students had chosen. It was for our administration team and I had a few hours to complete it and get it live. It does need some work and there are a couple of updates to be done. A test framework exists using R’s testthat and shinytest and I found a way of running them from the command line. Next up, find the time to do the updates and work on the new tests.

As a quick hack that I have been meaning to do for a sonification. I was intrigued by the row between NY Times, the Verge, Wired, and AI scraping and traced some of the robots files: https://iaine.github.io/robots/. The initial work suggests that there are changes, but perhaps need to consider the challenges of using the Internet Archive as an archive. Definitely something to think about.

As another quick hack, I looked at concepts in article titles from the ISMIR paper archive. I wrote a Python script to look at annual associations between key words and the associated words. I wanted to explore the idea of concept mapping and did some brief visualisations. Next up is to do some sonifications, but I may need to refer the final chapter of my thesis.

Next week, I start with teaching so will be busy doing that. Hopefully I’ll get to other hacks.
