Critiquing the Sonic

I am currently reading PR Carnet World’s interview with Holger Schulze. It covers a wide range of topics, including LLMs and music / sound that is close to my heart. The concept of think listening seems like an interesting response to the increasingly limited forms.

It is the considerations of listening in relation to LLMs and the questions raised by them. I am doing some work outside of LLMs but reflecting other parts of Machine Learning (more on which later).

I am interested in seeing how his comment, “I predict that, in the near or far future, using LLMs for sound production will be seen as an activity of low effort and quality, a marker of low status. In the late 21st century, sonic LLMs might represent stale, odorless, assembly-line products made from the cheapest plastic.” comes to pass. My own feeling is that there will be a mix of sorts between human and machine, but I have no feeling as to what yet.
